Cyprus - My First Perceptions of Cyprus

by Rob Atherton

Once I discovered Cyprus, I promptly fell deeply in love with the place. It had been a summertime trip and the fantastic weather together with the balmy, appealing waters of the Mediterranean were instantly captivating. There is additionally a tight relationship between Britain and the Greek area of Cyprus so it felt far more like your own house when compared with other locations in the Mediterranean.

We turned up at Larnaca Airport which is fairly well linked with various British airports]. Our waiting taxi cab transported us east in the direction of our hotel at the popular resort of Ayia Napa. It has a deserved reputation as a party destination, principally throughout the summer season but we had booked a 5* hotel around 2km out of the centre at Nissi Beach.

We were booked into the Aeneas Hotel a terrific 5* hotel situated across the road from Nissi Beach. Our accommodation was placed is lovely gardens and the main swimming pool may be the biggest individual pool I've ever seen in a hotel. We were booked into a standard room that was nice and clean, modern and cozy and a few of the superior rooms opened up directly on the main pool. All through the day, the pool, or rather a bit of it, was the focus of the exceptional entertainments team who performed the whole day keeping visitors busy.

Breakfast time in our hotel was a selection of classic British or continental breakfasts. There is a terrific selection of food together with plenty of fruit which is always a pleasant sight on vacation. At night, we usually ate away from the hotel because there is a significant range of bars, cafes and eating places within easy reach or maybe a quick taxi ride away in the middle of Ayia Napa. There is a lot of different places to eat across the Ayia Napa. One evening, we even tried crocodile meat. In Ayia Napa, I spent 2 or 3 days scuba diving with a dive centre in the resort. The sea was warm but sadly, there isn't anywhere near the same amount of sea life I was used to in Egypt. We also paid a couple of visits to the nearby Waterworld Aqua Park which is a fantastic trip for kids of all ages.

One more place worth visiting is nearby at Protaras. The Sea Aquarium Park has in excess of 400 types of marine existence on show and outdoors within the gardens, you will see enclosed ponds with turtles and crocodiles. Nevertheless, this Cyprus holiday was generally a seaside break and we spent much of the time either across the road from Aeneas Hotel at Nissi Beach or round the enormous hotel pool. We didn't really take a look at the other parts of Cyprus during our holiday. That adventure will need to hold off until we return the next time.
